Foxtails? nope... This here is the Copper Wyrmtail—one of the rarest relics I've ever laid hands on. Harvested from the remains of a copper wyrm that once outwitted entire armies, it's not just a trophy—it moves with you. Grants you balance, might, and a taste of the old wyrm's arcane fury. But be warned, treasure-hunter: it remembers its past... and it still wants gold.

Copper Wyrmtail Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

This enchanted dragon tail, crafted from the preserved scales and bones of an ancient wyrm, attaches seamlessly to the wearer’s lower back. Once attuned, the wearer can control the tail as if it were a natural extension of their body.

Properties

  • Draconic Balance: The wearer gains advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks and cannot be knocked prone except by magical means.

  • Tail Strike: As a bonus action, the wearer can use the tail to make an unarmed strike. The tail deals 1d8 bludgeoning damage and counts as a magical weapon for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity.

  • Wyrm’s Arcane Surge: Once per long rest, the wearer can channel the lingering arcane energy of the dragon’s essence. As an action, they unleash a wave of magical force in a 10-foot radius centered on themselves. Each creature of their choice within range must make a Strength saving throw (DC 15) or be pushed 10 feet away and knocked prone.

  • Elemental Affinity: The tail is imbued with the essence of a copper dragon. When using the Tail Strike ability, the wearer can choose to have the attack deal an additional 1d4 acid damage, reflecting the copper dragon’s elemental nature. The tail takes on a bronze-like sheen, faintly shimmering with alchemical energy.

Curse (Optional Variant)

Some Wyrmtails hold remnants of the dragon’s will. Once attuned, the wearer occasionally experiences flashes of the dragon’s memories, influencing their emotions and decisions. At the DM’s discretion, failing a Wisdom saving throw (DC 14) when making a major decision could result in the dragon’s instincts overriding the wearer’s will temporarily. If the wearer fails this saving throw in the presence of gold, they are compelled to use any means necessary to grab and secure all gold within sight, treating it as their hoard.

Lore

Legends speak of arcane artisans who crafted these relics from fallen dragons, binding their lingering magic into powerful artifacts. Some scholars believe that wearing such an item risks drawing the attention of dragonkind—whether as a revered ally or a hunted thief.

Disclaimer: The Copper Wyrmtail is a handmade leather item that is purely decorative and does not actually grant magical powers, increase balance, or cause uncontrollable gold-hoarding. Side effects may include tail envy, overconfidence, and making "whoosh" noises when pretending to swing it. Wear responsibly.
